DEFTONES White Pony (2020 UK/EU 11-track double album 2-LP pressed on classic black vinyl. Originally released in June 2000 White Pony found Deftones pushing beyond the nu-metal scene theyd emerged from layering their post-hardcore intensity with dream-pop atmosphere electronic texture and a newfound sense of restraint a shift AllMusic described as the band going soft but in an impressive way without losing the force at the records core. The albums title track opener aside the record moves fluidly between the visceral Elite which won the Grammy for Best Metal Performance in 2001 and the more delicate Digital Bath and Teenager songs that widened what a metal band could sound like without abandoning the genre altogether. Guest contributions come from Rodleen on Knife Prty and Tools Maynard James Keenan who provides additional vocals and co-writing on Passenger. White Pony was met with critical acclaim both at release and in the years since and has come to be regarded by fans and critics alike as one of Deftones most mature records.
